About Maria
Maria Filipakis has more than two decades of experience in government and the private sector, specializing in strategic and regulatory matters in the financial services industry. Ms. Filipakis has focused on insurance, securities and banking, with extensive expertise in cybersecurity, digital currencies and financial crime prevention. She provides valuable insights and guidance to organizations navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
Ms. Filipakis spent her government career as a litigator, enforcement lawyer and regulator, holding senior positions at the New York State Department of Financial Services (“DFS”) and the New York Attorney General's (“NYAG”) office. At DFS, she was the first Executive Deputy Superintendent of the Capital Markets Division, where she managed a team of experts and led the development of groundbreaking regulations for cybersecurity and digital currencies. At the NYAG’s Office, she led several groundbreaking investigations into conflicts of interest at investment banks, trading practices in the mutual fund industry and fraudulent practices in the insurance industry, ultimately running the Investor Protection Bureau. She also held leadership roles at the New York State Insurance Department, advising statewide leaders during the 2008 financial crisis.
Ms. Filipakis is a graduate of New York University and Brooklyn Law School. She serves on the Board of Gemini Trust and the Dibbs Group.
