Planning to expand its programming into new regions, Learn Fresh — an international education nonprofit dedicated to enhancing students’ STEM and social-emotional achievement through sports and entertainment — recognized that its existing technology and resources could limit its ability to scale efficiently across global markets. To support its growth ambitions, FTI Consulting partnered with Learn Fresh on a pro bono basis to identify high-impact AI opportunities and develop an AI-enabled prototype designed to reduce manual work, provide accessibility to students and educators across non-English-speaking regions and enhance the overall user experience.
- Learn Fresh gained a comprehensive inventory of more than 45 AI opportunities spanning educator onboarding, training, reporting, communications, curriculum development and localization, providing leadership with its first consolidated view of where AI could reduce manual effort across the nonprofit.
- Eleven high-impact AI initiatives were prioritized based on expected value, feasibility, time to value, strategic alignment and user impact, including two stakeholder-selected use cases identified for immediate prototype development.
- Learn Fresh received a fully functioning AI-enabled educator onboarding prototype incorporating five AI use cases, supported by a technical architecture and handoff guide that enables continued in-house development while demonstrating how AI can localize content for global communities and streamline self-directed educator onboarding.
- Product roadmap recommendations, success factors and guiding principles for AI implementation equipped Learn Fresh to continue building new systems in-house, a capability the nonprofit estimates will save hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracted development expenses and enable those funds to be reinvested in the communities it serves.
Our Role:
- FTI Consulting conducted a current-state assessment through stakeholder interviews and a review of Learn Fresh’s platform, workflows, product documentation, reporting processes, curriculum, training and support materials.
- The team facilitated an AI strategy and prioritization workshop with the nonprofit’s leadership to validate assumptions, align stakeholders and identify the highest-impact use cases for prototype development and the future roadmap.
- Our experts defined the target-state educator onboarding journey, translated prioritized use cases into user requirements and UI/UX mockups and developed a full-stack AI-enabled onboarding prototype featuring conversational guidance, multilingual functionality, self-paced training, knowledge checks, progress tracking and a centralized educator resource hub.
- FTI Consulting conducted market and vendor research to identify practical AI solutions that could support Learn Fresh’s AI journey and documented the supporting technical architecture in a handoff guide to enable ongoing in-house development.
“At Learn Fresh, we have a small team that operates globally to support educators and students via STEM education. As our organization has grown, our systems have not always been able to keep pace with the evolution of our work. FTI Consulting’s team helped us expand our view of what’s possible by leveraging AI across our work, identifying dozens of opportunities to streamline internal processes and better support communities around the world. Most importantly, FTI Consulting’s input has helped strengthen our internal team’s confidence to build new systems in-house.”
