Carly West

Carly West is a senior ESG and sustainability adviser who works with company directors and senior executives to reduce risk, leverage ESG performance, navigate stakeholder requirements and build company value. Carly leads the ESG & Sustainability practice within Strategic Communications in Australia, helping public and private companies to develop and execute ESG strategy in line with their strategic ambitions.

Carly has more than two decades of experience working in-house and as an adviser to some of Australia’s largest and well-known ASX-listed corporates, non-profits and small and medium-sized enterprises (‘SMEs’) in the areas of sustainability and ESG, business strategy and growth, ESG governance, corporate affairs and communications, stakeholder engagement, crisis and issues management, community partnerships and investor engagement.

Carly is a strategic, values-led thinker who has extensive experience across materiality, strategy, ESG governance, stakeholder engagement and communications. Her experience extends to advising on ESG risk and opportunities and embedding sustainability across disciplines.

Carly holds a B.A./B.Bus. from Curtin University, as well as post-graduate qualifications in sustainability from Curtin University. She has completed the Australian Institute for Company Directors (‘AICD’) Climate Governance for Company Directors Course and has participated in Southcare’s Emerging Leaders in Governance course.

Relevant Experience:

• Provided end-to-end advisory services to a top, ASX-listed healthcare company as it established its sustainability approach, including strategy, governance, climate-related financial disclosures and reporting
• Worked with top 50 ASX-listed multinational mining company to establish and lead a robust double materiality process across global operations
• Developed and facilitated a ESG and sustainability training program for senior leaders from across industry
• Worked closely with numerous boards of directors to help advance ESG capabilities, including advising on ESG governance structures and charters, investor insights and regulatory compliance
• Led corporate affairs for a top 50 ASX-listed mining company, including sustainability, community engagement, issues management and media functions
