About J. Robert
J. Robert Medlin is a Senior Managing Director and Southwest region co-leader in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance practice and is based in Dallas. Mr. Medlin has more than 41 years of experience specializing in corporate finance; mergers and acquisition consulting; performance improvement; merger integration; interim management; cash and working capital management; business regeneration and turnaround consulting; restructuring and bankruptcy consulting; litigation support services; investigative accounting services and financial, audit, accounting and tax consulting. Mr. Medlin has provided financial advisory services in connection with a number of casinos in Las Vegas, including MGM and City Center to name a few.
During the past 23 years, Mr. Medlin has served on the international leadership team for the Corporate Finance practice. He has extensive experience in solving complicated problems for companies and their constituencies. Mr. Medlin has managed numerous large and complex consulting engagements for underperforming entities and has assisted entities with better managing their financial processes, reengineering and restructuring their business and balance sheet, and bringing together various constituencies to build consensus. He has been engaged as an expert witness in a variety of disputes.
Mr. Medlin has served in several interim management roles, including interim chief financial officer of Intelsat, a leading provider of fixed satellite services; interim chief restructuring officer of Reichmann Petroleum, a privately-held oil and gas operator; and chief restructuring officer of MBS Management, a multi-family housing real estate concern consisting of more than 50 apartment complexes and 17,000 units. In addition, he served as receiver and trustee in InverWorld and I.G. Services, and as examiner in Tecnet.
In addition, Mr. Medlin has represented borrowers; debtors; lenders; creditors and equity holders in formal bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. Some of his notable public engagements include La Madeleine; Zale Corporation; Bag n Baggage; Braun’s Fashions; Harvest Foods; Rubus Realty; RE Loans; Enron; Capmark; Baylor College of Medicine; Pillowtex; Eljer Industries; Lomas Financial; Big West Oil; TXCO; Age Refining; Reliant Channelview; Sunrise Energy; Global Power Equipment; CompuAdd; Encompass; General Wireless; Sun Healthcare; El Paso Electric Company; Greyhound; Minorplanet; Promedco; TWA; U.S. One Communications; SageCrest; Patriot Coal and Hostess Brands. He has also advised numerous municipalities, including Jefferson County, City of Houston, City of Chicago, City of Philadelphia, Town of Mammoth Lakes, City of San Bernardino and City of Detroit.
Mr. Medlin’s diverse experience encompasses a wide variety of industries including construction; energy and electric utilities; real estate; financial services; food services; distribution services; retail; healthcare; transportation; telecommunications and technology; media; manufacturing; gaming and hospitality; healthcare; municipalities and agriculture, including farm cooperatives.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Medlin was a partner and southwest regional leader of the U.S. division of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Business Recovery Services practice.
Mr. Medlin holds a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Georgia and is a certified public accountant.
