Chad E. Coben is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Dallas. He is a member of the Telecom, Media and Technology (“TMT”) practice within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment. Mr. Coben brings over 25 years of experience serving in executive management roles and advising companies and their capital partners on business transformations, M&A transactions, integrations, restructurings and crisis management.
Mr. Coben works closely with financial sponsors, lenders and management teams as both an advisor and as an interim executive to lead business transformations and operational improvement initiatives across the value chain, driving revenue growth, reducing operating and supply chain costs, transforming finance organizations and optimizing people, processes and systems. He has supported hundreds of merger and acquisition transactions and financings and routinely leads commercial, operational and financial due diligence and acquisition integration initiatives.
Mr. Coben is a seasoned restructuring advisor and has provided financial advisory services to sponsors and credit providers on buy/hold decisions, covenant defaults and in- and out-of-court restructurings to preserve value and maximize financial outcomes for clients.
Mr. Coben is an effective leader and has provided on-site crisis and turnaround management services for boards of directors, executive teams and their capital partners including the assessment of restructuring alternatives, guidance through of out-f-court restructurings and Chapter 11 filings, and leadership of operational turnarounds.
He has served in executive roles including Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer on behalf of both public and private equity-backed companies, including: Chief Restructuring Officer of CPXi, a leading ad tech and digital media company; Chief Restructuring Officer of LodgeNet Interactive, the leading provider of entertainment and connectivity services to hospitality and healthcare businesses; Chief Financial officer of Blue Nile, the largest online retailer of certified diamonds and fine jewelry; Chief Financial Officer of PacWest Telecom, a wholesale provider of advanced telecommunications services; Chief Financial Officer of Pacific Crossing, a transpacific subsea telecommunications carrier; Chief Financial Officer of Broadstripe, LLC, a regional cable, Internet and telephone service provider; and others.
Mr. Coben joined FTI Consulting at the end of 2008 with the acquisition of CXO, L.L.C., a boutique turnaround and advisory services firm. Prior to joining CXO, Mr. Coben spent over six years as part of a core management team involved in the consolidation, financing and operations of the cable television, radio, out-of-home advertising and telecommunications businesses through Marcus Cable, AMFM and Novo Networks. Mr. Coben began his career at Bank of America, where he spent six years in the Media and Communications Finance Group.
Mr. Coben received a B.A. in Economics at the University of Texas at Austin and his M.B.A. from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Coben has published a number of articles and has been invited to speak at conferences on a variety of topics.
Mr. Coben is a Board Member of the Turnaround Management Association and is actively involved in the Dallas community. He serves on the Board of Directors of several local non-profit agencies and was a founder of Dallas Social Venture Partners.
