Charles Palmer is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting. He works in the Strategic Communications segment and is based in London. Mr. Palmer also serves as the Global Head of the segment’s Telecom, Media & Technology (TMT) industry practice, and is part of the segment’s Financial Communications practice.

Mr. Palmer provides communications advice to a broad range of both UK and international companies. He has over 20  years’ experience and has been with the group for 16 years.

Mr. Palmer has advised numerous listed and private companies. His client experience includes Aegis, blinkx, Chrysalis, CINVEN, Dentsu, Euromoney, ITE, Informa, Hutchison Whampoa, JCDecaux,, Microsoft, Nasdaq OMX, Nokia, Sony ATV, Travelport, VimpelCom and YouGov.

With the rise in shareholder activism in Europe he has also been instrumental in developing our offer in this space. Mr. Palmer has advised on numerous activist shareholder and contested situations. His experience includes; TCI’s approach to ABN AMBRO and the subsequent sale to RBS; Liberty Acquisitions purchase of Prisa; Vimelcom’s gross battle over the Weather II transactions; Micro Focus’ defence against approaches from Advent and Bain; advising the shareholder group that instigated Mecom’s breaking and FINDIM’s successful campaign to stop a fire sale of Telecom Italia assets.

EECC experience includes NSN’s restructuring, Oberthur Technologies and Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia Devices and the more recent strategy update and rationalisation of the business.

Transaction experience includes HWE’s proposed acquisition of O2 UK, CSR’s sale to Qualcomm, Dentsu’s acquisition of Aegis, Microsoft’s acquisition of the Nokia devices business, Sony ATV’s acquisition of EMI’s music publishing business, Liberty Acquisitions’ refinancing of Prisa, the IPO of Justice Holdings and VimpelCom’s acquisition of WIND. He has also worked on a number of major international transactions outside of the TMT space; advising ABN AMRO in its €71 billion sale to a consortium of banks led by Royal Bank of Scotland, Turquoise on its sale to London Stock Exchange and OMX during its merger with Nasdaq.

Mr. Palmer has advised on a wide range of IPOs, large and small, many of which have required defining a new market to the financial community. Recent experience includes Travelport’s US listing and the proposed IPO of thetrainline which resulted in a successful sale to KKR. Major IPO experience includes international listings such as JCDecaux’s French listing,’s GDR listing as well as many AIM and Premium list IPOs. He has also worked on numerous take privates and other private equity base transactions.
