Dean Gaida is a Managing Director with the FTI Consulting Technology practice based in New York. Mr. Gaida’s areas of expertise include computer forensic acquisition and analysis methodologies, data mining/database analysis, and review workflow strategy development including use of predictive coding. Mr. Gaida has extensive experience in document collection, processing, review and production technologies.
Mr. Gaida has managed and participated in numerous large scale preservation and document review initiatives. Projects have included both domestic and international litigation and investigative matters including class actions, SEC and DOJ investigations, second requests, IP theft, bid rigging and financial fraud investigations.
Mr. Gaida has led numerous second request engagements including the Sirius and XM Satellite Radio merger, Sanyo and Panasonic merger, and Smithfield Beef and JBS Corporation merger. Mr.Gaida was also instrumental in the design and preservation efforts related to the Texas-based finance company Stanford.
Mr. Gaida regularly prepares expert reports and rebuttals defending his opinions relating to computer forensics and electronic discovery. In one such report involving an investigation at a Fortune 500 company, his analysis conclusively identified the use of a data wiping tool hours before the collection and interrogation of the suspect’s hard drive. This resulted in court-sanctioned penalties and termination of the custodian.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2006, Mr. Gaida worked as a Forensic Computer Analyst for Ernst and Young. Mr. Gaida’s duties included field acquisitions and preservation, detailed analysis for corporate and security investigations, forensic lab management and forensic documentation within various industries. In this role he participated in the data mining and analysis as part of a fraud investigation by the administration at a global charity.
From 2001 until 2003, Mr. Gaida worked within Ernst and Young’s Computer Systems Audit Group. The function of this group was to identify the systems and processes by which a company’s financial statements were created. As such he was exposed to a wide variety of financial applications and the security features surrounding them. He examined the logical and physical security surrounding these systems both through an interview process as well as testing. Mr. Gaida performed system audits for many Fortune 500 companies.
Mr. Gaida holds an MS in computer science and a BS in finance from Villanova University, combining his knowledge of computers and business to best serve clients.
