Eric Houle is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Atlanta. He is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.

Mr. Houle has more than 15 years of corporate finance and strategic advisory services experience with a focus on restructuring, business revitalizations, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, hedge fund and alternative asset investments and debt financing. He has advised senior management and boards of directors in revitalizing companies that are stagnant or underperforming as well as lenders in bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Houle has led numerous engagements involving the development of strategic operational and financial alternatives, negotiations with lenders and other constituencies, due diligence, capital raising, asset sales and business plan analysis.

Prior to rejoining FTI Consulting, Mr. Houle acted as a strategic advisor to a U.S.-based private equity fund where he was responsible for corporate planning, identifying prospective capital and investment opportunities abroad as well as operational improvement and restructuring initiatives on existing holdings. Mr. Houle also led negotiations with government ministries, conducted market risk assessments and performed initial due diligence on prospective investments in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Previously, Mr. Houle managed an SEC registered hedge fund that specialized in investing in corporate loans (both first and second lien), special situations of distressed companies and opportunistic transactions. In addition, Mr. Houle led engagements for the fund’s subsidiary specializing in distressed investing and advising on global corporate restructurings, turnarounds and mergers and acquisitions. During this period, Mr. Houle led negotiations, assessment of strategic alternatives and financial analysis to sell the South American assets of a U.S.-based energy company, which resulted in a ten-fold increase in value of the asset to the lending group and equity holders of $30 million. Mr. Houle also was responsible for the wind down of a bankruptcy remote special purpose vehicle of a distressed U.S.-based energy firm with $625 million of first lien debt and subsidiaries throughout South America. Mr. Houle developed strategic wind-down alternatives, negotiated with the lender group, led the asset sale process and performed business diagnostic services.

Mr. Houle also was Vice President Global Corporate Finance of a $650 million revenue inventory services company, with operations in more than 20 countries. Mr. Houle was responsible for treasury operations, budgeting and planning, profit improvement initiatives, operational restructuring and investor relations. Mr. Houle led the company’s foreign acquisition strategy and took a lead role in a leveraged buyout of the company in 2007. The net impact of the work performed resulted in a $500 million accretion of tangible shareholder value.

Mr. Houle originally began his career at FTI Consulting and spent six years in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment, where he provided financial advisory services across a broad range of industries, including fine paper distribution, furniture manufacturing, container finance, HVAC distribution, airline and textile.

Mr. Houle holds a B.A. in Economics and French from Union College and an M.B.A. from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
