Jas Cheema is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice. Mr. Cheema has more than 15 years of construction experience and is a chartered surveyor and a member of both the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

With dual qualifications in both construction and law, Mr. Cheema has gained experience working for clients, contractors and consultants. This experience has enabled him to develop a balanced and pragmatic view when dealing with contentious issues that arise during a project.

Mr. Cheema specializes in dispute resolution and has provided expert, forensic, contractual and commercial services to a wide range of clients including insurers, international contractors, specialist subcontractors, oil/gas companies, local authorities and various consulting organizations (Engineers, Architects etc).

Professional Experience: Expert Evidence

  • Appointed Quantum Expert Witness on behalf of a main Contractor on a AED400m dispute concerning a residential and commercial mixed use development in Dubai (DIAC live matter). Tasks include assessing amounts due under the contract, valuation of variations, loss and expense and disruption.
  • Appointed Quantum Expert Witness on AED multi-million dispute concerning the fit-out and MEP trades on a commercial project in Bahrain. Duties included undertaking investigations to assist with preparation of Statements of Claim and submission of expert report to an Arbitration Tribunal.
  • Appointed Quantum Expert on a £25m plus re-development of a Grade II listed building (and new buildings) in the home counties on behalf of a foreign royal dignitary. Duties included analysis and submission of an expert report in respect of terminated main contractor’s final account and cost to complete (including loss and expense) of the replacement contractor.
  • Appointed quantum expert on a dispute relating to certain losses arising from the discovery of asbestos once construction works had commenced. His role included the investigation and assessment of losses arising from disrupted and prolonged activities of work.
  • Instructed to provide independent quantum advice on an AED 200m plus construction and demolition waste recycling facility in the UAE. The scheme had serious issues relating to project delays, changes to plant and equipment resulting in cost overruns. Mr. Cheema prepared a report outlining planned v actual expenditure setting out where the cost overruns had occurred and likely prolongation costs.
