Lauren Cavanaugh is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. She is a member of the Insurance practice in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment.

As a consultant, Ms. Cavanaugh has worked on a variety of engagements including loss reserve analyses, asbestos liability estimation, dispute resolution support, reinsurance risk transfer testing, reinsurance pricing, due diligence support for mergers & acquisitions and other projects. She has experience in pricing and reserving of nearly all lines of property & casualty business, including Workers Compensation and Professional Liability.

Recently, Ms. Cavanaugh has been involved with dispute resolution in a wide variety of areas involving reinsurance, reinsurance brokerage arrangements, pricing/reserving of medical malpractice coverage, and asbestos liability estimation.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Cavanaugh worked both for a major consulting company, as well as for two property/casualty insurance companies. During her time working for insurers, Ms. Cavanaugh worked extensively on predictive modeling for personal and commercial lines insurance. Ms. Cavanaugh worked to create predictive models, using database and statistical software, to help the company better leverage itself against its competitors. All of her work involved significant statistical expertise as well as project management skills to reach the end goal of implementation. In addition, as part of her role, she advised many different key personnel including the chief underwriting officer, field underwriters, IT, and actuarial to determine the best possible model and ensure overall model acceptance. She also worked on traditional actuarial pricing analyses, and worked with claims and underwriting to develop an underwriting strategy.

Ms. Cavanaugh is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She is an active member and has participated in the Academy Risk-Based Capital committee, the Casualty Actuarial Society exam committee and the American Academy of Actuaries’ Mass Torts Subcommittee. She has also spoken at industry events.
