Lawrence Pacheco is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Washington, DC. Mr. Pacheco is in the Public Affairs practice in the Strategic Communications segment with a focus on the Energy and Natural Resources sector. He has 20 years of experience in strategic communications, consulting for Fortune 500 companies, candidates for elective office on the state and national levels, nonprofits, ballot initiatives and grassroots issues campaigns.
Mr. Pacheco is responsible for planning, managing and leading integrated communications and public affairs programs for clients in the energy sector. His areas of expertise include corporate messaging, media affairs, issues and crisis management, executive visibility and thought leadership.
Mr. Pacheco has worked with international oil and gas companies in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa region and South Africa to maximize the energy mix in these regions, build greater demand for natural gas and position it as a foundational fuel source for electricity generation and sustainable economic growth. In addition, he provides strategic media and stakeholder engagement counsel to a number of electric utility companies facing an evolving business model due to market, policy and regulatory challenges. He lends his expertise to clients such as Exelon Corporation, Constellation Energy, the Large Public Power Council, NextEra Energy, Noble Energy, Salt River Project and Shell Oil Company. Pacheco was selected by executive management to participate in the 2007 inaugural class of FTI’s International Leadership Academy.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting in May 2007, Mr. Pacheco served on Capitol Hill as senior advisor, spokesman and press secretary to Sen. Mark Udall when he served in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his time in Washington, DC, Mr. Pacheco also held multiple positions in the office of Colorado Gov. Roy Romer including press secretary, deputy political director and legislative/legal assistant. Additionally, he has worked on a number of state and federal campaigns including Citizens for Romer ’94, Clinton/Gore ’96, Ken Salazar for U.S. Senate and Udall’s re-election campaigns as well as his successful campaign for U.S. Senate in 2008.
Mr. Pacheco graduated from Vassar College in 1992 with a B.A. in political science.
