Matthew Chivers is a Senior Director in the FTI Consulting Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment and is based in Melbourne, Australia.

A Chartered Accountant with over 13 years of commercial, corporate advisory and turnaround experience, Mr. Chivers has lead projects for financial institutions in restructuring and turnaround advisory, managed operations of underperforming businesses, and managed business sale transactions.

Services provided include interim management, cash and working capital management, forecasting and sensitivity analysis, operational and financial reporting, independent business reviews, financial modelling, due diligence and business sale transactions in distressed and non-distressed situations.

Mr. Chivers has experience across a broad range of industries, including retail consumer products, wholesale, manufacturing, financial services, transport, marine, and property. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Chivers served as Interim CFO at Laura Ashley Australia, CFO of Who-Rae (an Australian consumer products business). He also has extensive corporate advisory and restructuring experience which was gained at McGrathNicol.

Significant Engagements:

  • Served as Interim CFO of Laura Ashley Australia on behalf of Voluntary Administrators (“VA”) and led management of day-to-day trading, stabilisation of operations and implementation of an operational restructure which involved cost reductions, rationalisation of store network, and inventory optimisation. Mr. Chivers acted as the key conduit between the Company and the VA for all trade-on operations and provision of information/data which facilitated a successful asset sale to a group of Australian investors.
  • CFO of Who-Rae, an Australian consumer products company specialising in automotive interior products with a blue-chip customer base in Australia and North America. Responsibilities included oversight of management and financial reporting, commercial operations, strategy input, stakeholder management, covenant reporting, HR, project and risk management. During this role Mr. Chivers delivered an independent business review, implemented process and performance improvements, and led M&A activity (data room, provision of sale assistance/advice, and stakeholder management). Mr. Chivers’ expertise led to the achievement of a successful trade sale to a US competitor.
  • Various independent business reviews on behalf of secured lenders.
  • Led stabilisation and management of trading operations of various businesses under formal insolvency engagements.
  • Assisted in the long-term restructuring of Centro Properties Group on behalf of the Australian lender group.
