Michael DeRooy is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance & Restructuring practice of FTI Consulting and is based in Sydney.

Mr. DeRooy has been involved in all facets of formal and informal insolvency administrations and has broad experience in the areas of:

  • complex investigating into accountant’s reports;
  • corporate reviews;
  • corporate recovery services and restructuring /workout advisory;
  • corporate board advisory; and
  • document discovery and enterprise valuation advisory to assist in litigation matters.

He has led teams on engagements for Australia’s major trading and regional banks, and finance companies and has successfully driven outcomes for a large number of overseas banks (~40 banks) who have held Australian syndicated or bi-lateral exposures. 

Mr. DeRooy has dealt at a high level with both private enterprise and statutory authorities in relation to the continued trading and creation of strategies for the realisation of several of Australia’s largest infrastructure assets including Epic Energy’s Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline, CrossCityMotorway Group’s CrossCityTunnel and Connector Motorway Group’s Lane Cove Tunnel and Falcon Street Gateway.

Other major achievements include directing the day to day trustee role for the rebuilding and listing of a major property mortgage trust and the dissolution of the Australian partnership of Arthur Andersen. 

Mr. DeRooy has extensive experience in finding creative corporate recovery and corporate finance solutions for Financiers and providing Board advisory services.

In addition to his advisory experience, Mr. DeRooy has held senior positions in two of Australia’s major trading banks and an international investment bank dealing with credit and restructuring matters.

Mr. DeRooy joined FTI Consulting in 2013, bringing significant  restructuring, banking and commercial experience gained in Australia and the UK.
