Paul Goldean

Paul Goldean is a Managing Director in the Global Insurance Services practice in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment of FTI Consulting. Mr. Goldean is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and works out of the New York office. He has more than eighteen years of experience in the insurance industry with eight years of executive experience at Scottish Re Group Limited in various functions, including as a board member in both public and private companies, chief executive officer, chief administrative officer, executive vice president and general counsel.

Since leaving Scottish Re, Mr. Goldean has advised a number of companies in both buy side/sell side mergers and acquisitions, re-domestication from Bermuda to Switzerland, restructuring, opening of U.S. insurance platforms, regulatory, tax and legal matters.

In addition to insurance activities, Mr. Goldean created his own investment company focusing on start-ups and restructuring in food distribution and manufacturing, franchising, patient care and advisory, identity theft protection and real estate.

In his various roles with Scottish Re, Mr. Goldean twice led the restructuring and turnaround of the company, reducing debt, increasing risk-based capital, equity and liquidity, implementing improved accounting and actuarial processes and preparing a complex International bankruptcy and insolvency plan. In addition he completed the sale of the company’s original ING book of business to Hannover Re, the international operations to Pacific Life and wealth management segment to Northstar. He also led the company in improving financials by renegotiating and obtaining letters of credit of more than $3 billion and avoiding regulatory actions both in the U.S. and internationally. Prior to the need to restructure the company, Mr. Goldean executed strategic public and private capital market and securitization initiatives, mergers and acquisitions in the U.S. and abroad. He was also responsible for all operations, legal, regulatory and tax work.

Prior to joining Scottish Re, Mr. Goldean served as counsel with Jones Day Reavis & Pogue and Strasburger & Price LLP, where he advised domestic and international clients in connection with a wide variety of general corporate matters, insurance, commercial litigation, Internet law, franchising and licensing.

From 1986 to 1991, prior to college and law school, Mr. Goldean served as a Squad Leader in the U.S. Army’s special operations force, the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Mr. Goldean holds a J.D. from Southern Methodist University and a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at El Paso.
