Richard Armstrong is a Managing Director in the Retail & Consumer Products practice within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment of FTI Consulting, and is based in Melbourne.

Mr. Armstrong has over 25 years’ experience in corporate finance providing both financial and strategic advice and transaction execution services to leading Australian corporate and financial institution clients.

Throughout his corporate and investment banking career in Melbourne, New York and Sydney, Mr. Armstrong has been involved in the origination and execution of a broad range of transactions, including capital and funding structure advice, equity, convertible, hybrid and debt capital markets, credit rating advice, corporate lending, asset finance, working capital management and risk management transactions.

In his most recent role as Managing Director, Corporate Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (“BofAML”), Mr. Armstrong led the reintroduction, after a 10-year absence, of BofAML to the Melbourne corporate banking market following Bank of America’s takeover of Merrill Lynch. During that time, he completed a series of transactions for fast-moving consumer goods and industrial companies, such as Wesfarmers, Treasury Wine Estates, Amcor, Telstra and CSL as well as a range of leading natural resources companies.

Prior to BofAML, Mr. Armstrong was General Manager, Strategic Alliances at Coles Myer Limited where he led a team responsible for negotiating and managing the separation of Myer from the group marketing programs; helped evolve the company’s financial services strategy; and led negotiations with National Australia Bank around a restructuring of the FlyBuys loyalty program. He has also worked at BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, National Australia Bank and the Australian Merchant Bankers’ Association.

Mr. Armstrong holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with Honours) from the University of Melbourne and he is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Finance & Treasury Association.
