Robert Gemmell is a Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Brisbane. Robert is in the Construction Solutions practice in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment.
Robert is a highly skilled dispute resolution professional specialising in the quantification and assessment of loss caused by delay and disruption on construction and infrastructure projects.
Robert has over 20 years’ experience in the international construction industry working in both professional practice and construction contracting companies in consultancy and ‘hands-on’ roles on live construction and engineering projects.
Valued for his impartial and frank opinions, analytical skills and methodical approach, he has undertaken more than 100 appointments as Arbitrator, Adjudicator, Expert Determiner and given evidence under oath in court proceedings as Expert Witness in disputes ranging from several thousand to several hundred millions of Australian Dollars.
Robert also tutors for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Oceania and is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Education Committee Oceania, the Society of Construction Law Australia and is a Practitioner Member of Resolution Institute.
He is a visiting/guest lecturer on the Master of Construction Law program at the University of Melbourne and a published author, co-writing a number of books on Adjudication with the now retired UK High Court Judge, Frances Kirkham, for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Robert is also the author of the book entitled “Quantification of Delay and Disruption in Construction and Engineering Projects” published by Thomson Reuters in August 2017. The book is an authoritative and practical text on how to assess the time effect of delay events with a particular emphasis on how to quantify the financial loss caused by both delay and disruption.
