Wesley Appell is a Managing Director in the New York office of FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice and is a member of the Real Estate and Structured Finance Group. Mr. Appell has over six years of experience in providing strategic, operational and financial solutions to distressed entities, their creditors and investors in both Chapter 11 and out-of-court restructurings.
Mr. Appell has advised both public and private companies in matters involving different property types, including office, single family and multi family housing, land development, retail, hotel and leisure, and fractional ownership. These assignments have involved developing multi-year financial projections, due diligence, operational analysis, valuations and disposition strategy. Mr. Appell also provides advisory services to lenders, creditors and other interested parties of distressed companies. He has conducted extensive reviews and analyses of business plans, financial projections, transaction proposals and management incentive compensation plans. Additional experience includes providing advisory services to lenders and equity sponsors seeking due diligence assistance.
Mr. Appell has been involved in many large, high profile national and international engagements, including General Growth Properties, Innkeepers, a multi-billion dollar global originator, servicer, and securitizer of mortgage loans, a national home builder, and two military housing privatization projects.
Mr. Appell holds a B.S. from San Diego State University with a concentration in finance. He is currently a level II candidate in the CFA program, and is a professor at New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate.
