Matt Callaghan

Matt Callaghan is a Senior Managing Director and Head of UK Restructuring at FTI Consulting.

Matt has over 25 years of experience helping to transform businesses during their most challenging periods and leading a large number of high-profile, high-value and complex restructuring and insolvency cases. He has worked with a variety of corporates and their stakeholders including sponsors, lenders, government and regulators to guide them through these high-stake situations.

His recent experience has been across a wide range of industries including infrastructure, oil and gas, retail, casual dining and manufacturing, working to protect stakeholder interests and creating outcomes that seemed improbable at the outset.

Matt’s focus on building consensus across diverse stakeholder groups is recognised across the market and is evidenced by ongoing positive client feedback.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2020, Matt was a Partner at PwC and has worked across Europe and the Middle East.

Matt is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner.

Relevant Experience:

• Special Manager of Prax Lindsay Oil Refinery, one of five remaining oil refineries in the UK
• Led the administration of Avanti plc, a global satellite business with approximately $1 billion debt stack to preserve operational continuity across international markets
• Advisor to HMG on multiple situations of public interest including Project Snapper, Project Bianca and Project Timber
• Lead advisor to the syndicate of lenders on Condor Ferries
• Lead advisor to Red Funnel including its successful sale
• Fixed Charge Receiver of Noble Group as part of a financial restructuring
