Katrina McDonald

Katrina McDonald is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting with 20 years of experience in strategy and transformation across mining and resources. Katrina advises organisations on business transformation, operational excellence, performance improvement and capital strategy.

Katrina combines technical expertise, frontline operational leadership and enterprise transformation experience. A mechanical engineer with a Ph.D. in computational modelling, she has held leadership roles in Queensland coal operations and led major enterprise initiatives across BHP and professional services.

Katrina brings together operational, technical, organisational and commercial perspectives to connect strategy with execution and deliver sustainable performance improvement. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, she held a senior strategy and change leadership role at a Tier-1 engineering consultancy, where she led key elements of the development of its centenary business strategy. She previously held operational leadership roles with BHP before leading enterprise improvement initiatives within its Maintenance and Engineering Centre of Excellence.

Relevant Experience:

• Held site-based operational, engineering and maintenance leadership roles across BHP’s coal operations, with statutory mining competencies supporting site management and material risk ownership
• Led a global performance transformation across BHP’s Maintenance and Engineering function, aligning performance measures and ways of working from Asset Presidents through to frontline operations
• Led elements of the centenary enterprise strategy for a global Tier-1 engineering consultancy, working with the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team to define its long-term direction
• Led capital and operational improvement initiatives, including a portfolio review that delivered 20% cost savings without operational impact and an operational reset that restored performance within the financial year
