Andrew McCarthy Comments on Citizenship Data Collection Proposal in Banking
Washington, D.C., March 20, 2026 — Andrew McCarthy, a Senior Managing Director within FTI Consulting’s Forensic and Litigation Consulting segment, comments on the U.S. proposal to collect citizenship information from banking customers.
In an interview with American Banker, Mr. McCarthy said of the proposal, which has now been reversed, that “…a change such as this would be very complicated and will have knock-on effects that will require significant time to implement, impacting the banks, their employees and customers.” Read the full article here (subscription required).
Mr. McCarthy, who is based in Washington, D.C., is a member of the Financial Services practice at FTI Consulting and an expert in financial crime and financial conduct regulations and guidelines from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. He advises financial services clients on Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”), Economic/Trade Sanctions, Tax Crime, and Client Suitability risks and related Customer Due Diligence (“CDD”) and Transaction Monitoring (“TM”) operating models and controls.
