Michael Hennigan is a legally qualified quantity surveyor with more than 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, during which he has garnered experience on a variety of projects across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (‘EMEA’) and Asia Pacific regions. Michael is regularly appointed as quantum expert in adjudication, arbitration and litigation. He has experience providing both oral evidence under cross-examination by a King’s Counsel and concurrent evidence. Michael also has extensive expertise in the case management process and has assisted party-appointed legal teams in the preparation of witness evidence and for cross-examination.
Michael’s quantum expert witness expertise is founded on comprehensive quantity surveying experience. Whilst acting on behalf of clients, Michael has regularly undertaken tasks, such as providing pre- and post-contract measurement and cost control; developing tender and contract documentation; and valuing and negotiating variations, loss and expense claims and final accounts. Michael’s work has also included adjudication, arbitration and litigation support, undertaking contract reviews, project audits, contract and commercial management, as well as preparing and defending claims.
Michael has been involved in a vast range of construction projects under numerous forms of contract, consisting of major building, industrial, infrastructure and power projects such as offices, residential schemes, airports, rail, power plants, offshore wind, dams and pipelines, as well as onshore and offshore oil and gas projects, on both pre- and post-contract issues.
In addition to Michael’s B.Sc. with honours in quantity surveying, he also holds an LL.M. in construction law and arbitration. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; a Full Practising Member of The Academy of Experts; Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (‘RICS’) accredited as a Commercial Mediator; and has an Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence, which is the only Masters level qualification for expert witnesses in the UK and internationally.
Michael has also been recognised consistently by Who’s Who Legal for the last seven years for his Expert Witness work. He is known for his significant experience acting as an expert witness in various forms of legal proceedings and alternative dispute resolution (‘ADR’) processes, as well as his exceptional work ethic, good judgment, attention to detail and high-quality written submissions. Additionally, Michael is able to distil complex concepts easily to his clients and is recognised as an organised, methodical and technically proficient partner.
