Tara Singh is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and leader of the firm’s Canadian Valuation & Damages practice. Based in Canada, she advises on domestic, U.S., and international disputes. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (“CPA”), Chartered Business Valuator (“CBV”), holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (“ABV”) designation, and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (“CFE”). Since 2006, Tara has specialized in quantifying economic damages and valuing businesses and other assets, with experience across complex commercial litigation and arbitration, including breach-of-contract disputes, intellectual property and securities fraud matters, class actions, and other financial litigation.
Tara has provided expert testimony in litigation, arbitration, and mediation, and has offered deposition evidence. She has prepared numerous expert and valuation reports for courts, arbitral panels, and regulatory bodies. Since 2023, she has been recognized by Who’s Who Legal in the categories of Arbitration Expert Witnesses and Consulting Experts – Quantum of Damages.
Her work spans multiple industries, including health and life sciences, manufacturing, real estate, energy, telecommunications, financial services, and construction. Tara has been retained in the context of complex valuations, intellectual property disputes, shareholder conflicts, and commercial loss matters, delivering analyses that translate technical and financial complexity into clear, actionable insights.
An active contributor to the professional and academic community, Tara has taught courses in the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (“CICBV”) program, covering disputes, loss quantification, and business valuation. She has served on the CICBV Publications Committee, helping to shape thought leadership in the field, and regularly presents at industry conferences and to the legal community.
Tara is also committed to advancing diversity, equity, and representation in the expert-witness profession. She serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force of the American Society of Appraisers and is a member of the Global Steering Committee for Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses (“ERE”), promoting fairness and inclusion across the field.
Relevant Experience:
- Quantification of economic losses and, where applicable, the defendant’s profits in multiple intellectual property disputes involving alleged copyright and patent infringement across energy solutions, pharmaceuticals, airport guidance technology, and fabricated steel products.
- Quantification of sunk costs and the value of lost opportunities in several resource-based disputes.
- Quantification of economic losses arising from alleged improper distributions to shareholders of a C$500 million Canadian plastics design and manufacturing firm. Involved collation of financial data for a complex ecosystem of companies and the notional recission of various shareholder agreements.
- Valuation of an agreement for clinical stage biotechnology licensed by a publicly traded Norwegian company involved in commercial arbitration. The assignment required consideration of the probability of biotechnology reaching each stage of development through to commercialization and the impact of various royalty rates and milestone payments.
