FTI Consulting was retained to support the defense of a global financial services firm facing allegations of aiding and abetting a fraudulent scheme across multiple class action lawsuits.
Our Impact
- FTI Consulting’s expert testimony contributed to exclusion of plaintiffs’ damages theory in one case and a favorable summary judgment ruling in the other.
- Our team exposed flaws in the plaintiff’s damage calculations by using forensic accounting and data skills to analyze complex, unstructured bank statement data.
- Our data-driven approach challenged hundreds-of-millions of dollars in plaintiff-claimed damages across multiple analytical dimensions.
Our Role
- FTI Consulting transformed five years of PDFs containing transactional data from 30 accounts into a structured database, enabling a detailed flow-of-funds analysis.
- Our experts reviewed the transactional data underlying the plaintiff’s expert work and performed a comparative analysis of transactions claimed to represent damages.
- The team identified how plaintiffs’ experts failed to account for transactions that mitigated alleged harm, showed inconsistency with their own damage methodologies and based their analysis on transactions with no clear demonstration of harm to putative class members.
