Imran Ahmad

Imran Ahmad is a Senior Director in the EMEA Financial Services team at FTI Consulting with a primary focus on payments, e-money and retail banking regulation. Imran advises payment institutions, e-money firms, challenger banks and firms operating within payment and financial market infrastructure ecosystems on governance, risk and regulatory compliance matters.

At FTI Consulting, Imran supports clients across the full payments regulatory lifecycle, including authorisation and permissions strategy, regulatory perimeter analysis and safeguarding, and client money compliance. His work also extends to prudential risk management, consumer duty implementation, conduct risk and operational resilience. Imran has advised firms expanding their product and permissions profiles, strengthening safeguarding and settlement oversight frameworks, enhancing payment scheme governance and embedding control environments aligned to Financial Conduct Authority ("FCA") and central bank expectations.

Imran’s experience spans regulatory supervision, complaints adjudication and in-house compliance leadership within both scaling fintech and established banking and global payments environments. This combination provides him with a detailed understanding of how regulatory expectations are formed, interpreted and tested in practice — particularly in relation to safeguarding, consumer protection and operational resilience within payments models.

Imran has led significant remediation and control enhancement programmes for payment services firms subject to heightened supervisory scrutiny, including oversight of safeguarding and consumer protection workstreams, regulatory engagement strategy and executive-level governance reporting. He also provides interim leadership and targeted resource augmentation support to stabilise risk and compliance frameworks during periods of rapid growth, regulatory intervention or business transformation.
