IntoUniversity, a national education charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across the UK, wanted to evaluate the opportunity to expand regional centres beyond the 61,000 students supported in 2025 and the 250,000 reached since the charity began in 2002.1 But with growth and opportunity comes challenge: Centre-level funding gaps were inconsistently modelled across regions, regional fundraising materials were non-standardised and out of date, and financial planning and fundraising strategies were not fully integrated.
In order to overcome the gaps in financial visibility that were hindering budgeting and strategic planning, IntoUniversity’s leadership partnered with FTI Consulting on a pro bono basis to develop a more sustainable growth model that aligned with future strategic goals.
- IntoUniversity established region-led fundraising with tailored, data-backed narratives aligned to local need, equipping the charity to build stronger donor relationships across its regional network. These newly created narratives are now being leveraged in donor outreach and across the organisation’s broader network.
- In support of the charity’s strategy to expand donor engagement and help facilitate donor outreach, IntoUniversity received a curated list of target organisations, prioritised by best fit and informed by targeted prospect research.
- IntoUniversity gained full visibility of centre-level funding gaps and long-term sustainability risks, enabling leadership to make informed and strategic decisions.
- The charity adopted a dynamic financial planning engine linking expansion decisions to funding assumptions, enabling agile scenario modelling, clarifying financial impacts of expanding operations and isolating fundraising needs based on the expected cost structure growth.
Our Role:
- FTI Consulting built a dynamic long-term, centre-level financial model that provides both a detailed view of local operations and a consolidated forecast of the organisation’s financial performance through 2030.
- Our experts strengthened IntoUniversity’s ability to understand how adding new centres would impact financial performance and, simultaneously, modelled centre-level profit and loss statements, isolating current funding needs at a granular level.
- The team developed eight data-backed regional fundraising brochures and elevator pitches, combining national narrative with local deprivation and impact data to support targeted donor engagement.
- FTI Consulting screened and prioritised corporate and foundation prospects to identify high-potential funding opportunities, creating structured partner funnels to support targeted outreach and conversion.
