The population of Australians over 85 years old is projected to double in the next 25 years, meaning person-centred and innovative aged care that meets the population’s needs is vital. Southern Cross Care Queensland (“SCCQ”), a not-for-profit aged care provider in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, sought to gain insight into the global, national and community factors shaping the operating environment for aged care and broader healthcare providers to reset its direction in a new five-year strategic plan. The organisation engaged FTI Consulting to conduct targeted desktop research and identify emerging megatrends within the sector, and more broadly, to capture the risks, opportunities and trade-offs that SCCQ needed to consider in developing its strategic plan and navigate future challenges to position the organisation for long-term growth and impact.
- Innovative examples across the care sector were identified to highlight key opportunity drivers with the strongest potential to meet community needs, build resilient operational models and deliver sustainable aged care services for SCCQ.
- SCCQ gained insight into how key aged care sector and broader global trends shape senior health outcomes, community connections and changes to ongoing aged care.
- The trends identified provided SCCQ with what to focus on when developing a bespoke, unique strategy to meet the needs of the growing population of older Australians over age of 85 while supporting its growth and impact over the next five years.
Our Role:
- Drawing on local and global case studies, our experts conducted detailed desktop research and data analysis to understand trends, emerging influences and future needs in the care sector.
- FTI Consulting identified the risks, opportunities and external pressures influencing strategic choices and long-term sustainability aligned to SCCQ’s organisational values.
- Our experts ultimately provided SCCQ with understanding of how these factors need to be considered across future service delivery, their operating model, workforce, digital enablement and governance.
