A leading digital asset financial services company found itself at the center of a complex, multijurisdictional regulatory investigation led by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As regulators sought detailed and defensible disclosures, the sheer volume, variety and interdependence of these data sources created significant pressure on both the company and its advisors to quickly understand where responsive information resided and how it had been created, modified and maintained over time. FTI Consulting was engaged to assist retained counsel in the investigation and to produce responsive information.

Leveraging deep expertise from both its Emerging Data Sources specialists and Data & Analytics professionals, FTI Consulting led a coordinated effort to identify where responsive information resided, how it was generated and maintained and how it could be defensibly collected and analyzed.
The Emerging Data Sources team addressed challenges posed by modern platforms including collaboration applications, customer support systems and cloud‑based platforms including Slack, Google Workspace and Zendesk. Emerging data experts also handled dynamic website content, while the Data & Analytics team focused on understanding, validating and extracting insight from large, complex structured datasets underpinning the client’s business operations.
Together, these teams delivered an integrated solution that aligned unstructured and structured data workflows, enabling consistent scoping, defensible processing and regulator‑ready production across disparate systems.
By combining hands‑on technical execution, strategic advisory support and deep domain expertise, FTI Consulting served as the central point of coordination between the client’s technical teams and outside counsel, ensuring that emerging data, structured data analytics and traditional e-discovery efforts were managed in lockstep.
