FTI Consulting partnered with Bet Tzedek Legal Services — a nonprofit providing free legal services, education and policy advocacy to low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles County, California — on a pro bono basis to conduct a racial equity analysis of its programs and assess its existing data collection approach to identify changes for more effective impact measurement.
Our Impact
- FTI Consulting analyzed the impact of Bet Tzedek’s programs and determined that the nonprofit’s legal interventions provided equitable access to justice for individuals in need.
- Our experts identified three specific communities within Los Angeles County as new areas of need for Bet Tzedek’s services based on high concentrations of low-income households and historically fewer Bet Tzedek cases compared to other areas.
- The team provided recommendations for data collection to help Bet Tzedek better track and measure the equity and impact of its services.
- Bet Tzedek’s executive team and Board of Directors utilized FTI Consulting’s findings to further inform the nonprofit’s strategy.
Our Role
- FTI Consulting examined six of the organization’s core programs to assess the extent to which each program has met the needs of communities of color and analyzed historical trends of the participants of its programs.
- Our experts conducted an in-depth data analysis of each program, identifying the demographics of individuals served and comparing this information to the population of Los Angeles County.
- The team analyzed Bet Tzedek’s existing data collection processes and utilized artificial intelligence models to identify ways Bet Tzedek can improve its ability to measure its impact and apply for future grants.
“FTI Consulting had a unique opportunity to work beside Bet Tzedek’s program managers and technical director to lend our expertise. Our team’s detailed review of Bet Tzedek’s programs and tangible action items allowed the organization to demonstrate compliance with ongoing grant requirements. As an organization with limited capacity and resources, our support ensured that Bet Tzedek could continue meeting its mission and helping the most vulnerable members in Los Angeles County”
