Seeking to acquire a table grape farm and packing facility in South America, a leading global fresh fruit producer needed to understand the regional and target-specific risks associated with the transaction. FTI Consulting was engaged to conduct a comprehensive sustainability due diligence assessment and make actionable recommendations to support informed transaction and post-acquisition planning.
Our Impact
- The assessment identified critical risks impacting the target and its broader operating region, including existing and anticipated water availability and labor challenges that were relevant to the client’s transaction.
- Benchmarking against regional peers helped the client identify competitive gaps and opportunities to enhance sustainability governance, policies and oversight in support of value creation.
- Prioritized remediation recommendations, with estimated pre- and post-acquisition cost implications, enabled the client to quantify future capital needs, operational risk and potential legal exposure.
- Using these insights, the client increased transparency, integrated sustainability considerations into the transaction and strengthened long-term value through sustainability planning.
Our Role
- Our multilingual experts conducted in-depth research and stakeholder interviews to compile comprehensive assessments of environmental, social, political and reputational risks.
- FTI Consulting evaluated the target’s sustainability governance, policies, controls and reporting via document reviews, senior management interviews and onsite inspections, and performed peer benchmarking to assess sustainability program maturity and identify gaps relative to industry and regional standards.
- The team prioritized high-risk findings and translated them into a sequenced implementation plan with clear ownership and timelines, supporting effective execution across transaction and post-acquisition phases.
- Our experts provided senior leadership with guidance on scenario planning and crisis management related to labor and logistics planning.
