Jose M. Piñeiro

José Piñeiro is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting. Mr. Piñeiro serves as Head of the Forensic & Litigation Consulting department in FTI Consulting’s Madrid office.

For the past 20 years, Mr. Piñeiro has been involved in dispute advisory services, including forensic accounting and investigations, damages assessments and acting as an expert witness in local courts and arbitration tribunals. He has participated as an independent expert in more than 50 cases related to damage assessment, forensic accounting and factual analysis for local and international arbitrations, as well as for local courts and regulatory reviews.

As a forensic accounting expert, Mr. Piñeiro has led many projects involving financial statement manipulation, unfair competition, asset tracing and funds movements, sharing findings with legal counsel and audit committees, as well as internal audit and compliance departments. As a damages expert, Mr. Piñeiro has acted as an economic advisor in the International Chamber of Commerce, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Council of Economic Advisors arbitration cases and in local courts in Spain.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Piñeiro was Associate Managing Director at Kroll in the Financial Advisory Services practice in Madrid. He worked in Corporate Advisory in London for almost five years and for two years in the Buenos Aires office.

Relevant Experience:

• Served as Joint Independent Expert in an international arbitration in the European Court of Arbitration (“CEA”), providing factual and forensic analysis and valuation of common expenses subject to a dispute in a construction consortium, involving a high-speed train in Middle East and Africa
• Led a compliance review of promotional activities for a global biotech company across nine countries (Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, Russia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Panama and Mexico), performing standard operating procedure (“SOP”) evaluations, management assessments, transaction testing and local regulatory reviews
• Served as independent expert in a London Court of International Arbitration (“LCIA”) post-M&A price adjustment dispute in the education sector in Spain, delivering financial analysis and valuation assessment
• Served as joint independent expert in an LCIA arbitration regarding a development management contract for a commercial center in Portugal, conducting an economic analysis of contract obligations alongside a factual and accounting review of expenses and investments
• Served as joint independent expert in an International Chamber of Commerce (“ICC”) arbitration regarding breach of contract for an engineering, procurement and construction and operations and management broadband network in Latin America, quantifying consequential damages and loss of profits
• Served as independent expert in the financial and economic re-balancing review of one of Europe’s largest steel producers during Covid-19, assessing debt restructuring for a €1.1 billion facility
