Aaron Akanlu

Aaron Akanlu specializes in advising corporate and private equity clients on the tax aspects of acquisitions (including de-special purpose acquisition companies (“de-SPAC”) transactions), dispositions and divisive transactions, as well as internal restructuring using effective tax strategies to mitigate tax risk and preserve capital. Mr. Akanlu has more than 15 years of tax experience, of which nearly 10 years are focused on M&A tax.

Mr. Akanlu advises clients on a full spectrum of buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence services to help clients realize the commercial goals of a transaction. Mr. Akanlu’s practice generally focuses on U.S. domestic and cross-border tax due diligence involving large multinational public and private corporations, as well as small to medium size public and closely-held businesses. Additionally, Mr. Akanlu advises clients on pre-transaction tax planning and structuring, post-transaction tax integration and internal restructuring to streamline operating structures or to unlock shareholder value through spin-offs, carve-outs, and monetization of tax attributes.

Further, Mr. Akanlu has extensive experience advising clients on applications of U.S. consolidated return regulations pertaining to stock basis, earnings and profits, corporate bankruptcies, debt workouts, ownership changes and more.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Akanlu practiced M&A Tax at KPMG and EY, where he advised clients on complex tax matters on a wide range of transactions across many sectors.
