Clay Tompkins

Clay Tompkins has more than 15 years of finance and operations experience, helping clients improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their finance functions. Mr. Tompkins is a driven finance leader with a skill set that includes financial reporting, planning and performance management, finance business partnering and controllership.

Mr. Tompkins has managed business transformation efforts for companies across several industries. He has successfully led programs to improve the quality of financial reporting, upskill finance teams to add more value to the business and leverage technology to automate processes.

Mr. Tompkins has also provided finance leadership for clients directly through interim management roles, having served as vice president of operations finance for a $2 billion building products manufacturer. His clients benefit from his experiences working with both finance and operations to improve financial performance.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Tompkins was a plant controller for PBF Energy, one of the largest independent petroleum refiners. He has held various roles within PBF Energy and ExxonMobil’s Controllers organizations, focusing on finance business partnering. Before that, he worked as a mechanical engineer in the offshore drilling industry.

Relevant Experience:

• Led an inventory accounting, reporting and analysis improvement project for a $7 billion vaccine maker
• Served as interim vice president of operations finance, improving finance business partnering activities for the CFO and COO of a $2 billion building products manufacturer
• Managed multiple financial planning and analysis improvement workstreams for a $1 billion sand producer to improve segment and sub-segment profitability reporting and analysis
• Led a cost optimization project for a health care payer, realizing $5.5 million in annual cost savings through an organizational rightsizing
• Led a finance transformation effort for a $1 bilion medical device manufacturer, including month-end close optimization and robotic process automation implementation to drive efficiency
