Julie Zhu

Julie Zhu is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s International Trade practice. Ms. Zhu specialises in regulatory compliance, with a focus on export controls, sanctions and anti-money laundering. Ms. Zhu has extensive experience across the telecommunications, financial services and technology industries, advising clients on risk assessment, compliance programme development and regulatory strategy.

Ms. Zhu has led complex compliance projects spanning global operations and multiple jurisdictions. She has supported multinational clients on de minimis calculations, global sales compliance, product classification, sanctions screening, as well as designing automated systems to strengthen regulatory controls. Her work has helped clients enhance compliance performance, recover multi-million-pound assets in a compliant manner and establish trade facilitation arrangements with local authorities.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Zhu served as a project manager for a company listed on both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges. In that role, she guided the design and implementation of compliance programmes for the parent company and two subsidiaries, building frameworks for risk assessment and sanctions adherence. She also collaborated with third-party providers to develop online training programmes, including awareness and functional courses delivered to more than 50,000 employees worldwide.

Ms. Zhu holds an M.A. and B.A. in Law from Wuhan University and a B.A. in Public Utilities Management from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She holds a Certificate of Legal Professional Qualification in the People’s Republic of China and is a member of the Association of Certified Sanctions Specialists. She is a native Mandarin speaker, also fluent in English, and Ms. Zhu therefore brings a global perspective and practical approach to compliance advisory engagements.

• Developed comprehensive sanctions compliance and export control programmes for multinational technology and telecommunications clients
• Led compliance programme build-out for subsidiaries of a dual-listed company, strengthening risk assessment and control frameworks
• Provided strategic support to Asia-Pacific operations of a global computer and services provider, resulting in the compliant recovery of multi-million-pound assets
• Partnered with third-party providers to design enterprise-wide compliance training reaching more than 50,000 employees
• Advised on licensing and internal audit processes to facilitate trade and regulatory adherence across multiple jurisdictions
