Gerardo Proaño

Gerardo Proaño is a Managing Director and the Head of Competition in the Strategic Communications segment in Brussels. Gerardo spearheads the Brussels’ Strategic Communications work on antitrust, state aid, M&A, foreign direct investment screening and other competition policy, government affairs and communications matters within the Strategic Communications Competition, Trade & International Litigation practice at FTI Consulting. He has nearly two decades of experience in advising corporations, business leaders and law firms on the public affairs and communications aspects of numerous high-profile antitrust, M&A and state aid cases. He has successfully supported clients in risk management and global advocacy campaigns on competition policy and regulatory matters.

In addition to his work on competition cases and policy, Gerardo advises firms on Standard Essential Patents policy and advocacy as well as trade defence matters and disputes. Working with clients in a range of industries, including technology, energy, manufacturing and financial services, he helps businesses capitalise on opportunities and address threats arising from regulatory, political and litigation developments.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Gerardo was Head of Office for a leading competition public affairs boutique firm providing strategic advice and building public campaigns for clients in a wide variety of industries.

Gerardo holds a B.A. with Honours in Economics, Management and Finance from the Solvay Business School in Belgium and an M.A. in International Business Law from EAE Business School in Spain.
