About Greg
Greg Watson specializes in advising companies and their stakeholders and is experienced in representing shareholders, management, boards of directors, creditors and lenders in both formal and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Watson has more than 25 years of experience, including industry expertise in several areas such as telecommunications and media, retail, forest products, technology, industrial manufacturing, metals and mining, chemicals, automotive, consumer products and steel.
Mr. Watson’s experience ranges from private to public companies, including many large cross-border cases. Mr. Watson has advised on negotiations with management teams and creditor groups, analysed cash flows, reviewed and developed strategic business plans and developed and negotiated restructuring plans both in out-of-court restructurings and formal proceedings.
Most recently, Mr. Watson has acted as the court-appointed monitor of Cash Store Financial, a 500-storefront payday lending operation in Canada; Jaguar Mining Inc., a Canadian Company with operating assets in South America; Sino Forest Corporation, a Canadian Company with operations in Asia; Aveos Fleet Performance Inc.; Canwest Broadcasting CCAA; Trident Resources in the successful debt restructuring of its North American Gas Exploration Assets; and Pope & Talbot, a North American pulp, paper and lumber producer.
Mr. Watson also has acted as financial advisor to Carpathian Gold Inc., in connection with its operating assets in Brazil; the Nortel CCAA proceedings; Intertan Canada (Canadian Operations of Circuit City with over 600 retail stores in Canada) in its successful restructuring under the CCAA; Mercator Minerals Ltd., a Canadian-based company with operating assets in the United States and South America; the CAD$35 billion Canadian Asset Backed Commercial Paper CCAA proceedings; the Veris Gold Corp. proceedings; Forbes and Manhattan in connection with its mining assets in South Africa; and Canadian-based pharmaceutical products manufacturer in successfully renegotiating its debt with a syndicate of in excess of 50 members in in- and out-of-court restructuring. Mr. Watson also acted for the senior lenders in the CCAA proceedings of Quebecor World Inc., a leading print and publishing company.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Watson was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was the Canadian leader of the Corporate Advisory and Restructuring practice and President of PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc.
