James Nicholson

James Nicholson has close to 30 years of experience as a consultant in matters of finance, strategy and economics. Since 2005, James’ work has primarily involved issues of the identification and valuation of lost profits, and the valuation of businesses, financial assets including shareholdings, other assets and wasted costs.

James has testified more than 50 times before the high courts of the Cayman Islands, England and Wales, Malaysia and Singapore, the Singapore International Commercial Court (“ICC”) and commercial and investment treaty arbitration tribunals.

James is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a member of the Executive Committee of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (“FIAA”), co-chair of the Delos Damages MOOC launched in March 2023 and from 2014 to 2021 was president of the Standing Committee of the ICC’s International Centre for ADR.

Since 2015, James has been identified by Who’s Who Legal as one of the five to 10 ‘Most Highly Regarded Individuals’ and ‘Global Elite Thought Leaders’ in his region in its listings of the leading expert witnesses active in international arbitration.

Within FTI Consulting, James leads the firm's 45-strong Asia damages expert witness team and co-ordinates the firm's International Arbitration practice globally. Previously, James founded and led for 12 years FTI Consulting's 20-strong Paris Disputes team.
