About Kyung
Kyung Kim is an expert in cybersecurity, privacy, digital forensic investigations, risk management, crisis management, criminal, counterintelligence, counterterrorism investigations and national security matters. Mr. Kim is also an expert in network management and analysis, adept at investigating the root cause of network failures, implementing proper security processes and assisting with cloud migration issues.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Kim served as the Legal Attaché at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) within the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Korea. In this role, he acted as a Special Advisor to two U.S. Ambassadors on important international affairs, specifically relating to all FBI national security matters concerning the U.S. and the Korean Peninsula. He was responsible for leading the FBI's overseas missions and strategic plans, focusing on issues like cyber intrusion, counterterrorism, counterintelligence and criminal matters.
During the North Korea nuclear crisis, Mr. Kim provided strategic risk mitigation guidance to various stakeholders, including private sector leaders and U.S. government officials such as the White House, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense, the CIA Director, the FBI Director and the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command. Mr. Kim was instrumental in establishing a permanent FBI cyber agent position at the U.S. Embassy and the Korean National Police Agency Headquarters. This initiative aimed to proactively address cyber threats and vulnerabilities. He also offered guidance and coordinated responses to numerous risk management and crisis incidents related to cyber threats, including ransomware, DDoS attacks, cryptocurrency theft and business email compromise schemes. Additionally, he collaborated with the FBI Cyber Division and the Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force to provide cyber training to host nation entities, helping them better defend against cyber threats originating from North Korea, China and Russia.
Prior to his assignment in Seoul, Mr. Kim was a Supervisory Special Agent in the New York FBI Division, where he handled all organized crime-related matters. He also worked at the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”) focusing on East Asia from 2008 to 2009.
During his career, he received the FBI Director’s Award and the CIA Exceptional Performance Award. In 2021, Mr. Kim was named one of Consulting Magazine’s Top 25 Consultants in the Excellence in Manufacturing category. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, Mr. Kim ranked on the Lexology Index Data Experts list. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from Chestnut Hill College and an M.P.S. in Cybersecurity from Fort Hays State University.
