National security is no longer solely the concern of governments; it's a growing business risk. With new rules like the DOJ’s Bulk Data Security Rule and the Outbound Investment Rule, organizations must understand that how they manage data and technology is a matter of national interest.
This video explains what companies need to know:
- Data landscape: Assess the type of data the company holds and where it flows.
- Access management: Understand who has access to data and whether foreign influence is a factor.
- Supply chains and technology management: Evaluate technology usage, supply chain dependencies, and exposure to emerging technologies.
- Evolving regulations: Proactively address regulations such as CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S.), the DOJ's Bulk Data Security Rule, and the Treasury Department’s Outbound Investment Rule.
To remain resilient, companies should establish robust data governance programs, conduct proactive risk assessments, and take a holistic approach to compliance and security to stay ahead of potential problems.
As national security increasingly overlaps with that of organizations, the time to act is now.
