About Nicholas
Nicholas Genova is a Managing Director in the Power, Renewables & Energy Transition (“PRET”) practice within FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance team. Mr. Genova has spent more than 18 years in the energy and infrastructure finance sector, with deep experience in project finance, corporate finance and distressed assets, including dozens of complex restructurings of large energy, advanced manufacturing, and infrastructure assets. He has worked across many energy sectors, including nuclear, critical mineral supply chains, solar, wind, geothermal and natural gas.
Mr. Genova advises both government and private sector clients on economic, financial, market and strategic issues across the energy and critical minerals value chains. He supports government agencies, investors and borrowers through the full transaction lifecycle, including origination, structuring, execution, portfolio management, restructuring and recovery. Mr. Genova has also led engagements to establish government-backed entities and operating platforms, providing governance, administrative and technical support for critical projects of national importance. As a government finance and business formation expert, he brings extensive experience working with U.S. government lending programs and agencies, including the Department of Energy (“DOE”), Department of War (“DOW”), Export-Import Bank, International Development Finance Corporation (“DFC”) and Department of Commerce (“DOC”), as well as utilities, independent power producers and project developers.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Genova spent more than a decade with the U.S. DOE’s Office of Energy Dominance Financing, where he held progressively senior roles spanning portfolio management, special assets, and origination. He led a multidisciplinary team of 10 professionals responsible for complex restructurings, workouts, and asset recoveries, while managing a multibillion-dollar distressed renewable energy asset portfolio. He also advised on a more than $200 billion project pipeline, including emerging risks related to the evolving energy transition, and led agency-wide procurement of advisory and third-party services, overseeing contract acquisition and relationship management across departments. Prior to his time with the DOE, he worked at Rabobank, where he focused on special assets, loan origination and portfolio management for energy and infrastructure transactions.
