Greg Holness has more than three decades of experience in construction and construction disputes, having worked at different times in his career as an engineer and an attorney. When analyzing a troubled project (forensically or in real-time), he can quickly comprehend the parties’ contractual obligations, decipher the key facts that determine responsibility for issues that lead to delay, disruption, acceleration, lost productivity and increased costs, develop comprehensive reports explaining his analysis, and provide persuasive expert testimony in depositions, arbitration and court.
Greg has drafted and negotiated hundreds of construction and design contracts, which has provided him deep insight into key terms that often lead to disputes. He has a proven track record in creating, managing and analyzing project schedules and budgets; overseeing design, procurement and installation processes; and liaising with sureties and insurance companies.
Corporate officers and operational leaders routinely seek Greg’s advice on various project-related matters. His expertise is wide-ranging, spanning the construction and renovation of roads, bridges, high-rise buildings, water treatment plants, primary schools, courthouses, university buildings, museums, casinos, arenas, performing arts halls, process chemical manufacturing facilities, airports and maritime transportation facilities. He possesses a comprehensive understanding of project execution, which enables him to identify potential pitfalls and drive successful outcomes.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Greg worked at a state department of transportation, two large design-build curtainwall subcontractors and several law firms; he held the titles of project director, claims analyst, operations director and general counsel. This diversity has given him multiple perspectives to draw upon when assessing the merits of a change order or claim and developing a successful strategy for resolving disagreements.
Greg gives lectures on a wide variety of construction topics. Some of his seminars include “How Construction Problems Arise… And How to Avoid Them,” “Trips, Traps & Ploys in Construction Scheduling,” “How Design Documents Can Prevent or Cause Claims” and “Critical Construction Contract Clauses & the Disputes that Arise from Them.”
