About James
James Nicholson has consulted for more than 25 years on matters of finance, strategy and economics. Since 2005, James’ work has primarily involved acting as an expert witness on issues of the identification and valuation of lost profits and the valuation of businesses, financial assets including shareholdings, other assets and wasted costs.
James has testified a total 60 times before the high courts of the Cayman Islands, England and Wales, Malaysia and Singapore, the Singapore International Commercial Court (“ICC”) and commercial and investment treaty arbitration tribunals, of which 20 times were before investment treaty arbitration tribunals and is often appointed by courts, tribunals and jointly by parties as a neutral to address questions of valuation.
James is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a member of the Executive Committee of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (“FIAA”), co-chair of the Delos Damages MOOC launched in March 2023 and from 2014 to 2021 was president of the Standing Committee of the ICC’s International Centre for Amicable Dispute Resolution (“ADR”).
Since 2015, James has been identified by Who’s Who Legal as one of the five to 10 ‘Most Highly Regarded Individuals’ and ‘Global Elite Thought Leaders’ in his region in its listings of the leading expert witnesses active in international arbitration.
Within FTI Consulting, James leads the firm’s 45-strong Asia damages expert witness team and coordinates the firm’s International Arbitration practice globally. Previously, James founded and led for 12 years FTI Consulting’s 20-strong Paris Disputes team.
