Adam Bakran

Adam Bakran is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice and is based in London. Adam has more than 17 years of experience in financial investigations, focusing on undertaking expert witness work in litigation and arbitration.

Adam specialises in undertaking financial investigations in a wide range of engagements for public and private companies, regulators, governments, law firms and individuals across many industries including pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, financial services, commodities, manufacturing, travel, hospitality and leisure and energy. Adam has been involved in large, complex, multijurisdictional forensic accounting investigations involving fraud, financial crime (including bribery and corruption) and other financial irregularities, leading a number of them. He has undertaken investigations at various multinationals, following business combinations, change or as part of routine operations. He has led teams reviewing the financial operations of the companies, review of those companies’ compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and International Standards on Auditing (“ISAs”), interviewing and drafting witness statements and expert reports for use in regulatory action, litigation or arbitration.

Relevant Experience:

• Adam led the review for the accounting expert in a high-profile fraud claim brought by an Eastern European bank, where he and his team analysed four years of transactional data for more than 100 of the bank’s corporate customers.
• Adam led the investigative work for a software company in relation to its high-profile claims arising from a post-acquisition dispute. The work resulted in seven expert witness reports and support for the expert and legal team in their preparations for, during and after trial.
• Adam was an integral part of a large team on a multiyear investigation into allegations of accounting manipulation at a multinational pharmaceutical company. The allegations arose following a recent business acquisition by FTI Consulting's client.
• Adam was instructed to assist with a claim for accounting fraud and breach of financial statement warranties against the sellers of an industrial company to a private equity client.
• Adam has twice been seconded to the Financial Conduct Authority’s Enforcement and Financial Crime Division where he was appointed as an investigator under s.168 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. On the first occasion, he was part of the largest investigation into an insider dealing ring that the FSA had yet conducted, which resulted in three convictions. On the second occasion, he was a key member of the team imposing fines on five banks amounting to £1.1 billion for foreign exchange failings.
• Adam was also a key part of the London team acting on behalf of the U.S. trustee for the liquidation of a financial services company following the collapse of an alleged $65 billion Ponzi scheme.
