Adam Zalev is a member of FTI Capital Advisors in Canada, FTI Consulting's investment banking subsidiary. Mr. Zalev has more than 15 years of experience in special situations and a wide range of corporate finance and restructuring mandates. He has industry expertise across a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, retail, distribution, construction, energy, real estate, hospitality and automotive.
Mr. Zalev has advised management, corporate boards, shareholders and lenders on matters such as acquisitions, divestitures, financings, refinancings and balance sheet restructurings. He has served clients in Canada, the United States and Australia. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Zalev was a Managing Director at Alvarez & Marsal in Toronto, where he launched and led the firm’s Canadian Investment Banking business. Previously, he was a Vice President in Corporate Finance at KPMG. He began his career as an Associate for RSM Richter.
Mr. Zalev’s recent experience has included acting as financial advisor to: Bondfield Construction in connection with its refinancing; an oil field services company in connection with its refinancing; Ben Moss Jewellers in connection with its restructuring and sale of certain assets to Charm Jewellery Centres; FirstOnSite LLP in connection with its sale to Delos Capital Partners; GolfSmith/Golftown and OMERS in connection with the sale and restructuring of GolfSmith/Golftown; Nelson Education and OMERS in connection with its sale and recapitalisation; and Comark Inc. in connection with its restructuring and sale to Stern Partners.
In addition, Mr. Zalev supervised the sale process for Arctic Glacier Income fund to HIG Capital and oversaw the sale of the JW Marriott Rosseau to Canadian Niagara Hotels. He served as financial advisor to WestLB AG in connection with its financing and sale of the Pond Bay Project in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and advised the management of one of Australia’s largest retail real estate owners on its refinancing of more than $7 billion of senior and subordinated debt.
Mr. Zalev is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Professional Accountant, and holds a Corporate Finance Specialist designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. In addition, he is a registered Exempt Market Dealer with the Canadian Securities Regulators. In 2015, Mr. Zalev was named as a recipient of the 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award from M&A Advisor.
