Brett Kumm is a member of the firm’s national office consulting with engagement teams on complex accounting matters. Mr. Kumm is a CPA with approximately 25 years of experience providing consulting, accounting and audit services. He is routinely requested by counsel, representing companies and board of director committees, to conduct internal investigations over financial reporting matters. He also has significant experience assisting counsel regarding M&A disputes, including large working capital and earn-out disputes.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Kumm spent 18 years providing advisory and mergers and acquisition services at the accounting firms of KPMG and Andersen. Mr. Kumm has served a variety of industries including technology, investor owned utilities, construction, consumer products, distributors, advertising, retail transportation, leasing, manufacturing, steel, forest products, aviation and communications.
Mr. Kumm has extensive experience spearheading privileged investigations for both public and private companies. He is frequently requested by counsel to meet with audit committees, boards of directors, Department of Justice, and Securities and Exchange commission to discuss the results of investigations. These investigations have included a variety of topics including revenue recognition practices, alleged earnings management, and a variety of other technical financial reporting matters, including those involving disclosures.
Mr. Kumm also has considerable merger and acquisition experience that includes completing buy and sell side due-diligence projects and evaluating the financial reporting implications of mergers and acquisitions, including carve-outs and special purpose financial statements. He has extensive experience in the resolution of purchase price disputes, from the buyer’s and seller’s side.
Mr. Kumm has also assisted companies with large scale complex restatement projects, including those involving multinational Fortune 500 companies. He has assisted clients with public debt and equity oﬀerings, evaluation of derivative and hedging activities and complex debt and equity transactions.
Mr. Kumm has testified on accounting matters and presented at a variety of legal seminars and trainings on topics such as accounting for revenue, impairments, fair value, leasing, business combinations, provision for income taxes, audit methodologies and SOX 404 compliance.
