About Brian
Brian Boetig is a Senior Managing Director with more than 32 years of national security, public safety and consulting experience, including as a United States diplomat, an Assistant Director at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (“FBI”) and a Director at the National Cyber Center. He leads global clients through complex cybersecurity challenges with legal, technical and workforce solutions.
Prior to FTI Consulting, Brian was a member of the FBI’s Senior Executive Service (“SES”) from 2012 to 2022. His senior leadership roles in the FBI included serving as the Assistant Director of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate, responsible for strategic leadership of efforts to eliminate adversaries’ procurement networks and illicit use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons worldwide. Brian also served as the Director of the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, where he was responsible for coordinating, integrating and sharing information to support cyber threat investigations and intelligence production for government decision-makers and private sector stakeholders. Brian’s senior field positions were as the Special Agent in charge of the Buffalo, New York division and Assistant Special Agent in charge of the Oklahoma City division.
Brian was the FBI Legal Attaché in Canada, overseeing offices in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. In this role, he was responsible for all collaboration and capacity building with the Canadian government on topics including cross-border enforcement, 5G security, insider threats and the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Access to Data Act. He also served as the Legal Attaché for Ireland and the United Kingdom during a period that experienced a spate of terrorist attacks and the unprecedented use of the Novichok nerve agent in an assassination attempt in the UK. As a result of his international experience in these senior diplomatic positions, Brian served intermittently as the Assistant Director of the FBI’s International Operations Division. He led personnel at the FBI’s more than 90 offices around the globe and was stationed at the U.S. military’s combatant commands domestically and overseas. He was an expert on FBI strategic engagement efforts with the Five Eyes Alliance (comprised of the United States, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) intelligence and law enforcement partners.
Additional FBI assignments include supervising an elite Cyber Crimes Squad in Silicon Valley for the San Francisco Division, as an award-winning instructor at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, a two-year assignment to the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”) and leading teams with the Counterterrorism Division exploiting digital media and developing tools to enhance forensic collection and analysis in laboratory and austere environments.
