Hazel Chum

Hazel Chum is a Director of the Financial Crime Compliance practice in Singapore. She is an anti-money laundering (‘AML’), Know Your Customer (‘KYC’) and compliance advisory professional with significant industry experience working with clients in the banking and financial sector across Asia, supporting clients to proactively address regulatory challenges while safeguarding their reputation in a complex, ever-changing landscape.

At FTI Consulting, Hazel has led transformational financial crime compliance programme enhancements for banks and financial institutions. These include assessing AML and anti-bribery and corruption (‘ABC’) frameworks, designing compliance target operating models (‘TOM’), conducting KYC file reviews and operational efficiency assessments, developing sanctions policy and providing comprehensive end-to-end AML programme advisory.

Previously, Hazel held key roles at Morgan Stanley, where she managed KYC due diligence projects. Between 2019 and 2021, within the Institutional Securities (‘ISG’) business segment, she provided compliance oversight for mergers and acquisitions, block trades and other critical deals in sectors like finance, commodities and oil and gas. From 2017 to 2019, within the Private Wealth Management (‘PWM’) team, Hazel specialised in onboarding high-net-worth individuals in the Greater China and wider Asian region, highlighting sanctions, geopolitical and reputational risks and validating source of wealth.

Earlier in her career, Hazel worked with Stroz Friedberg, a boutique investigations firm in Hong Kong, where she managed the firm’s enhanced due diligence projects in the Asia Pacific region for financial institutions and global hospitality groups. Her work included deep dive investigations and reputational monitoring, as well as fast-paced KYC screening, helping clients make informed decisions and avoid exposure to financial or reputational harm.
