Kathleen A. Fitzgerald, J.D., CHC

Kathleen A. Fitzgerald has over 30 years’ experience in the health care industry, serving the needs of publicly traded organizations, health systems, Academic Medical Centers, clinical laboratories, and large physician enterprises.

Ms. Fitzgerald specializes in the assessment, development and support of healthcare regulatory compliance programs and with the handling of government investigations and federal enforcement matters. She has provided compliance program senior leadership as General Counsel for the nation’s largest laboratory Accrediting Organization and as the Chief Compliance Officer for the nation’s third-largest clinical laboratory. She has also supported and implemented compliance program best practices for multi-state physician enterprises, not-for-profit health systems, hospitals and Academic Medical Centers as well as conducted and implemented comprehensive compliance program risk assessments and plans of correction.

Ms. Fitzgerald also performs pre-acquisition compliance due diligence to assess the effectiveness of a Target’s Compliance Program and post-acquisition gap assessments to identify weaknesses in program effectiveness and design. Most recently, she assisted a large Academic Medical Center in rolling out its Compliance Program in a new hospital acquisition and in developing a Compliance footprint for all future acquisitions.

Ms. Fitzgerald holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Richmond, and a J.D. from the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law. Ms. Fitzgerald is licensed to practice law in Maryland and Virginia. She is certified in Healthcare Compliance and Healthcare Risk Management. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, American Society of Healthcare Risk Management, and the Health Care Compliance Association.
