Max Gebhardt is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and Head of South Africa Strategic Communications segment. Mr. Gebhardt leads the specialist advisory communications teams in Johannesburg and Cape Town, helping companies seize opportunities and mitigate risk during both transformational and disruptive moments. A former financial journalist and editor for nearly 20 years, Mr. Gebhardt has been advising clients on enhancing their reputation and ensuring their licence to operate is protected for more than 15 years.
Mr. Gebhardt has a background in corporate law and economics and is responsible for advising clients on the best practice and good governance when it comes to corporate communication and crisis communication.
Mr. Gebhardt has advised a host of local and multinational blue chip companies such as Coca-Cola, Sanlam, Santam, Amazon Web Services, Sasol, Tiger Brands and Vodacom among others. Mr. Gebhardt’s expertise includes mergers and acquisition activity, investor relations, crisis communications and ongoing strategic communications.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Gebhardt was the Deputy Editor and Editor of the ‘Financial Mail’, as well as the Business Affairs Editor of ‘Business Day’.
Mr. Gebhardt was named as the Citi Financial Journalist of the Year in 2013 for his work on the bread cartel in South Africa and the impact of the breaking up of the cartel on bread prices.
