About Ugo
Ugo Okpewho has over 20 years of diverse healthcare experience at insurance companies, public accounting and benefits consulting firms. He has performed several actuarial and management roles within firms involving pricing, reserving & forecasting related to the commercial and government health markets. He also has experience working with healthcare providers assisting with risk contracting, ROI modeling on disease management programs, mergers & acquisitions, and thought-leadership publications.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ugo served as the Healthcare Advisory Actuarial Leader at BDO where he helped to build and establish a new practice; performing independent actuarial calculations and certifications of healthcare asset & liability balances for audit clients as well as a variety of advisory projects involving payers, providers and expert litigation services.
Prior to BDO, Ugo was the Chief Actuary at a midsize hospital-focused employee benefits firm – which got acquired by Aon Risk Solutions. While at Aon, Ugo worked closely with HR & senior leadership within small to large sized employers on their self-funded healthcare strategy related to setting budget rates, employee contributions and valuing various employee programs.
Before Aon, Ugo was the lead actuary of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Individual market business – overseeing the pricing (rate filings), reserving (IBNR) & forecasting functions. He and his team were vital in aiding Horizon’s transition from the pre to post Affordable Care Act (ACA) era involving the 3Rs (Risk Adjustment, Risk Corridor & Reinsurance).
Ugo also worked at Medco, a leading pharmacy benefit manager, as their first in-house actuary assisting in their monthly financial close processes involving the calculation of reserves and other financial reconciliation items. He built and maintained their projection/forecasting model for LICS, Reinsurance, Risk Corridor and Coverage Gap Discount – as well as provided bid support for their Medicare Part D line of business. Earlier in his career, Ugo worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ in multiple actuarial analyst roles performing employer and payer focused actuarial analytics as well as healthcare research, writing and publications.
