Brian Kushner is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Dallas. Dr. Kushner is the Leader of the Private Capital Advisory Services practice and also co-leads the Activism and M&A Solutions, Technology and the Aerospace, Defense and Government Contracting (“A&D”) practices.

Over the past 25 years, Dr. Kushner has served as Chairman, Director, CEO/interim CEO or chief restructuring officer (“CRO”) of more than 30 public and private telecom, media and technology (“TMT”), manufacturing and A&D companies, including serving as the CEO of four telecom companies, two software companies and a mid-tier defense contractor.

In addition, Dr. Kushner has led more than 50 engagements involving all aspects of TMT and A&D, as well as staffing solutions, payment processors, semiconductors, gaming, aerospace, MRO, auto parts manufacturing and data center providers. These projects have involved every aspect of corporate performance, including strategy and go-to-market planning, M&A, revenue enhancement, BPO/BPA, IT, outsourcing, cost cutting, supply chain management, digital and social marketing strategy and complex restructuring.

Dr. Kushner co-founded CXO, L.L.C., which was acquired by FTI Consulting in 2008. Over the last two decades, Dr. Kushner and his former CXO partners have bought or sold more than 25 companies and have conducted diligence on more than 50 TMT, consumer electronics and manufacturing companies for private equity and hedge funds, along with providing assistance to organizations in revenue enhancement, M&A, cybersecurity, digital strategy, outsourcing, governance and SG&A cost reduction.

Dr. Kushner was previously the Chair of the Remuneration Committee and Audit Committee member of Luxfer Holdings PLC (NYSE: LXFR); Chair of the Audit Committee of EveryWare Global (now Oneida Group, formerly NASDAQ:EVRY); Lead Director and Audit Committee member of Damovo (sold to Oakley, which rebranded itself Damovo); Managing Member/Director and then interim CEO of DLN Holdings, LLC, an IT, cyber-security and aerospace engineering services defense contractor; Chair of the Innovative Companies in the Caribbean (island cable, telecom and mobile services provider) and a Director of Headway Solutions, a staffing and training company.

In 2015, Dr. Kushner served as the CRO of Relativity Media through its bankruptcy proceedings, completing three transactions for the business, two of which were Section 363 asset sales. Prior to this, he was the CEO and acting Chairman of Sage Telecom, a Texas CLEC, which was sold to a strategic buyer in 2012. He led the turnaround of Sage from a loss to EBITDA of 18 percent of revenues in nine months, reducing bad debt from over 11 percent to about two percent and monthly churn from over 7.5 percent to less than four percent in the same timeframe.

As CEO and then Director of Pacific Crossing, the former Asia-Pacific affiliate of Global Crossing, Dr. Kushner led the company through a contentious bankruptcy in the U.S., Japan, UK and Bermuda, where he stabilized operations, grew revenue, generated profits and positive cash flow and resolved over $2 billion in claims, resulting in the sale of the company to NTT in 2009.

At, Dr. Kushner restructured the company through litigation, regulatory issues, credit card fraud and chargeback challenges, growing revenues, leading an IT systems modernization and resolving supplier problems. As CRO and CEO at Intira, a managed applications data center company, Dr. Kushner brought the company to cash flow neutral in 60 days and closed a 363 sale to a strategic buyer.

Dr. Kushner began his career at BDM International, an aerospace and defense firm. After 10 years he ended up as Chief Scientist/CIO leading Advanced Technology, classified project turnarounds and DARPA business. He led aerospace and manufacturing turnarounds after BDM was purchased by Ford Motor Company and returned to technology, telecom and defense related turnarounds after BDM’s acquisition by Carlyle.

Dr. Kushner has been a testifying expert in over a dozen large matters relating to all aspects of TMT, ERP, IT, outsourcing and M&A. Dr. Kushner was the 1997 recipient of KPMG’s Information, Communications and Entertainment “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in Austin for Industry Leadership in Entrepreneurial Companies of less than 200 Employees.

Dr. Kushner currently serves as an independent Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS); an independent Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Mudrick Capital Acq. (NASDAQ: MUDS); an independent Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Thryv, Inc. f/k/a/Dex Media (OTC: DMDA); an independent Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Gibson Brands, a KKR portfolio company; an independent Director and member of the Audit Committee of Zodiac Systems, a One Equity Partners portfolio company.

Dr. Kushner holds a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied & Engineering Physics, the latter with a minor in Electrical Engineering, all from Cornell University. Dr. Kushner was the December 2014 Commencement Speaker for the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Natural Sciences, and was inducted into the Hall of Honor at the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Natural Sciences in 2018. Dr. Kushner is a Certified Turnaround Professional.
